Full Review of Izumi Sushi on Royal Caribbean

Izumi Sushi is a popular Specialty Dining venue onboard Royal Caribbean cruise ships. Izumi is known for its fresh and high-quality sushi and offers up a variety of Japanese dishes. These include sushi rolls, sashimi, and other traditional Japanese items like miso soup and tempura.

We have given Izumi a try for their Hibachi dinner in the past and absolutely loved the experience and the food.

As you read in our Wonder of the Seas Preview, you saw that we booked Izumi Sushi for lunch. We have really been enjoying trying sushi at local establishments, so we were really looking forward to trying some new options at Izumi.

The Menu

As we said, Izumi Sushi is known for its fresh and high-quality sushi and offers up a variety of Japanese dishes. You are allowed to make your selections a la carte or as a prix fixe menu by choosing one small plate, two large plates, and a dessert.

Some ships also offer Izumi Hibachi, where guests can enjoy a lively teppanyaki experience. We have tried this in the past, and we highly recommend giving it a try.

Cost

The price for Izumi Sushi can vary from ship to ship. Be sure to keep an eye on the Pre-Cruise Planner, either on the Royal Carribean app, or while you are logged into your account on their website.

We scored a great deal, booking during a 40% off sale for $23.99 per person.

Our Experience

During our recent cruise on Wonder of the Seas, we reserved lunch at Izumi Sushi on Day 3 at 12:00 PM. We arrived right on time, and the hostess promptly greeted us and seated us.

Our price for the meal included the prix fixe menu, which again offered us each one small plate, two large plates, and a dessert.

Small Plates

For our small plates, I ordered the Pork Gyoza Dumplings, which are pan fried pork wontons with gyoza sauce. Leah went with the Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura.

What a solid way to start the meal! Both were absolutely delicious, but the Pork Gyoza Dumplings took home the win.

Large Plates

Next up were our Large Plate selections. This section of the menu featured Signature Rolls, Chef’s Signature Rolls, and Bowls and More. We both had a hard time narrowing it down to just two items each.

Leah started with the Crispy Philly Roll, featuring salmon, avocado, and cream cheese, flash-fried in panko breadcrumbs and topped with Champagne sauce and spicy aioli. Additionally, she ordered the Izumi Ryu Futomaki Roll. This bold combination featured assorted tempura-fried sashimi, spicy aioli, Champagne and unagi sauces, cream cheese, wakame salad, and ginger dressing. These were both amazing, but our clear favorite was the Crispy Philly Roll.

I opted for the Spicy Miso Ramen, a hearty bowl of egg ramen noodles, spicy pork, miso broth, chashu pork or seasoned chicken, bamboo shoots, boiled egg, nori, and garlic rayu chili. For my second dish, I went with the Spicy Crispy Shrimp Roll, which featured shrimp tempura, avocado, tempura flakes, unagi sauce, and a hint of togarashi spice. Both dishes were delicious! The Spicy Miso Ramen was a generous portion, delivering plenty of heat and bold flavors.

Dessert

We actually had room for dessert after this meal! We looked over the options and placed our order.

Leah ordered the Crispy Sesame Balls, which contained red bean paste and had a garnish of strawberry sauce. She enjoyed them, while I was not a fan.

I ordered the Chocolate Lava Cake, which was a warm chocolate cake with a gooey chocolate center, matcha powder and fresh berries. I was a little worried about the matcha powder, but I hardly tasted it. I’d have to say this might be the best dessert I ate on the entire cruise!
