The Best Smoked Apple Pie Baked Beans

You read that right – Smoked Apple Pie Baked Beans!  All of that smokey deliciousness with a hint of sweetness from the apple pie filling.

Ingredients:

  1. 2 28oz Cans of Baked Beans
  2. 1 18oz Bottle of Any BBQ Sauce
  3. 1 lb. of Pork Sausage
  4. 1 TBSP of Yellow Mustard
  5. Red Pepper
  6. Yellow Onion
  7. ¼ Cup of Brown Sugar
  8. Can of Apple Pie Filling
  9. Worcestershire Sauce (optional)
  10. Your Favorite BBQ Rub (I like a hickory bacon flavor for this recipe)

Directions:

  1. Preheat the smoker to 250 degrees.  My go to pellet blend is the Competition Blend from Pit Boss, but feel free to mix it up with your preferred flavor.
  2. While the smoker is preheating, dice your onion and red pepper.  Cook them in a pan with the pork sausage.
  3. Drain some of the liquid out of the baked beans and dump the beans in a foil pan.
  4. Add the cooked sausage, red pepper, and onion.
  5. Dump in your favorite BBQ sauce and add the yellow mustard.
  6. Add the apple pie filling.  Side note – I’ve made these several times now and I prefer a smaller chunk of apple, so I chop up the apples in the pie filling before I add them to the beans.
  7. Add the brown sugar.
  8. Sprinkle a good amount of your favorite BBQ rub over the top.  I prefer a hickory bacon seasoning.
  9. Mix it all together and put on the smoker for about 2 hours.

These are our favorite baked beans and sure to be a hit at every backyard party.
